Cascadean Lava Beds

Located in the Oregon Cascade mountain range, along OR route 242, unfold relatively young lava beds in and around Dee Wright Observatory, part of the McKenzie-Santiam Pass Scenic Byway route. Today the Scenic Byway follows the path of an 1860 Oregon Trail wagon route through the lava beds. Along the route, emerge from the forest and cross a 65-square-mile (170 km2) lava flow. At the summit, the wagon route had to be cut through these lava beds. This 90 second capture soaring above these Lava Beds gives one a perspective of the challenge faced by the early Oregon settlers using the wagon route crossing. Content capture is using a custom Aerial Spherical Array. The 360 output video file at 4K resolution, provides excellent image quality.
